Clarity in the complexity
of living systems.

Neornito studies birds and the habitats they hold together — combining long-term fieldwork, precise instruments and open data to make ecological change legible.

Named for Neornithes — every bird alive today.

Birds are among the most sensitive indicators of environmental health. When migration timing drifts, when populations thin, the landscape is telling us something.

We are a research organisation built around three commitments: rigorous field science, instruments designed for the realities of wild places, and data that anyone can inspect, reuse and challenge.

  • A Evidence over assumption
  • B Minimal disturbance in the field
  • C Open by default
142 Species monitored
38 Active field sites

Areas of inquiry

Four long-term programmes, each designed to run for a decade or more.

R/01

Migration & Movement

Tracking routes, stopover sites and shifting timing across the flyways of Central Europe.

R/02

Habitat & Ecosystems

Measuring how wetlands, forests and farmland support — or fail — breeding populations.

R/03

Acoustic Ecology

Passive sound monitoring to census species and understand communication in changing soundscapes.

R/04

Population Health

Long-term demographic and health data to detect decline early and guide conservation action.

Built for the field, not the lab.

We design our own low-impact sensors: lightweight, weather-sealed and quiet enough to disappear into a habitat. Every device is documented and its hardware specs are published.
